The Most Difficult Solution to Snoring

Many people are looking for a solution to snoring, and rightly so.  A chronic lack of sleep is not just annoying, it’s dangerous.  When you don’t get your full seven or eight hours of rest every single night, you can become irritable and frustrated.  Chronic headaches can ensue.  Many people report falling asleep when they shouldn’t such as behind the wheel or during slow times at work.  Another reason that you need to investigate a solution to snoring is that if your snoring is caused by something as dangerous as sleep apnea, when the brain is not getting oxygen and so you’re making snorting or gasping sounds, you can actually suffer minor brain damage after some time.  This damage can cause a lack of attention and concentration and even show up in problem solving abilities.

A Very Unpleasant Solution to Snoring

But the most difficult solution to snoring that many people don’t even want to think about or talk about is this:  lose weight.  Far too many persons snore because they are overweight and even obese, and sometimes even just losing a mere ten or twenty pounds can be an adequate solution to snoring.

The reason that excessive body weight is such a problem for this issue is that when you have excessive fat in the area of the neck, this can collapse around the throat and cut off the air passages.  Most any solution to snoring will tell you that it’s important to keep these passageways clear and open; but all the moisturizers and sprays and drops in the world will not help if those passages are being squeezed shut.

No one likes to be told that they need to lose weight, but sometimes this is the only solution to snoring that will work for a person.  You can keep your throat as coated as you want and your nasal passages as clear as you want, but it will do no good if you’re squeezing your throat shut by your own neck.

Working This Out on Your Own

The good news when it comes to weight loss as a solution to snoring is that this means that there’s something you can do about it.  Some problems are never going to be cured short of a surgeon’s scalpel, but losing weight is something you can do yourself.  When the problem is one that you can tackle on your own, then this should be empowering, not overwhelming.

Exercising is a great way to begin your weight loss journey, and may also work as an added solution to snoring because exercise strengthens the lungs and the respiratory system overall.  When your respiratory system is strongest, you’re less likely to be gasping and choking for air during the night, something that many people confuse for snoring.

So losing weight may not be the easiest solution to snoring that one can have, and it may be a difficult issue for a person to face overall.  But it can also mean the difference between a good night’s rest or not.
